Serving shelters and veterinary professionals across the US and Canada
Surgical backlogs, beware.
Slomba Shelter Solutions is on a mission to help animal shelters keep their doors open, their kennels moving, and their surgery schedules under control. Founded by longtime shelter professional Karen Slomba, S3 got its start bringing together powerhouse veterinary teams to support animal shelters across the country with high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) services.
Today, S3 offers a full menu of services to support shelters and the professionals who keep them running, including:
Whether we’re mobilizing a pop-up surgical team, helping a shelter rebuild its veterinary staff, or just listening and helping you figure out and implement next steps, we bring decades of experience, compassion, and a dash of disco inferno energy to the table.

Meet The Team

Christie Keith
Christie is the voice behind S3’s social media, website, and infamous glitter scrub jokes. A longtime writer and communications strategist in the animal welfare and shelter medicine world, she first crossed paths with Karen while interviewing her about a distemper outbreak. (That’s how you know it’s real.)
Christie has worked with organizations including the UF Shelter Medicine Program, Maddie’s Fund, Humane World for Animals, Fear Free, and the Million Cat Challenge.

I. R. Wolff
I. R. Wolff brings serious range to the S3 team: retired pro equestrian coach and competitor, professional chef, event planner, business operations consultant – and now, clinic-day chaos tamer. With decades of experience keeping people, projects, and horses in line, she’s the one making sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly.
She’s married to Dr. Greg Wolf, mom to two grad students, and currently training for the unofficial title of Professional Karen Wrangler. She’s thrilled to be part of the S3 team and excited for what’s ahead.

Karen Slomba
Karen Slomba is the founder of Slomba Shelter Solutions and the person most likely to show up at your shelter with a clipboard and a plan to turn chaos into progress. With more than 20 years of experience in animal welfare, Karen has led four nonprofit and government-contracted shelters across New York and Florida, and was a founding member of the Animal Alliance of Western New York, helping launch the five-year, $5 million Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project of Erie County.
She currently serves on the board of Better Together Pet Resource Center in Niagara Falls and sits on the Advisory Board of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations. As a consultant for the New York State Animal Protection Federation, Karen travels the state helping shelters work smarter, stay compliant, and stay standing.
She is, in short, the shelter world’s equivalent of a Swiss army knife: compact, sharp, and gets stuff done. (Only someone bedazzled the army knife.)
Slomba Shelter Solutions was born when Karen looked around and said, “There has got to be a better way.” Spoiler: she was right. What started with weekend pop-up HQHVSN clinics has grown into a multi-service operation providing everything from spay/neuter relief to TNVR program development, shelter staff recruitment, and customized consulting. Basically, if you’ve got a problem, she’s already packing the van.
Before launching her shelter career, Karen worked as a concert promoter, artist manager, and television producer. It turns out that years of managing rock bands and dodging thrown microphones was ideal prep for a life in animal sheltering.
Karen lives in upstate New York with 13 geriatric and special-needs cats and two dogs who are, frankly, wildly outnumbered.

Amy McPoland
Amy McPoland spent her career helping people find things they love.
Sometimes those things were iconic brands like Nickelodeon™, MTV™, Barbie®, and Nancy Drew®. Sometimes they were new products, new experiences, or entirely new ways to connect with audiences. Today, she’s helping shelters, clinics, and veterinarians find something even more important: the right fit.
With decades of experience in marketing, brand strategy, and business growth, Amy has built brands, launched products, led teams, and helped organizations stand out in crowded markets. Most recently, her work with an app-powered GPS dog fence company reminded her just how passionate she is about helping animals and the people who care for them.
In addition to making her marketing skills available to Slomba Shelter Solutions clients, Amy focuses on veterinary recruitment. She matches talented veterinarians with shelters and HQHVSN programs across the country, believing great placements happen when you take the time to understand people, listen carefully, and look beyond the résumé.
When she’s not helping veterinarians find their next adventure, she’s spending time with the animals who inspired her to join the mission in the first place: three consecutive rescue dogs and one formerly homeless cat who showed up between dogs, ignored the hiring process entirely, and appointed himself to the position.
